which hyd. oil?
which hyd. oil?
Just getting ready to hook up the rest of the hyd. lines and add oil. What oil is best for these,I've been told everything from 10wt motor oil to 30wt motor oil (according to Cat this is what to use) to 32 hyd fluid. Not that this track loader is going to be used very much, maybe 10-20 hrs a year and not in the winter what is the best choice?

I buy the HyGuard equivalent which is cheaper and it seems to do fine. I think 30 wt would be OK in the system, as long as you did not use it in cold weather.

Lavoy , I got what seemed to be the best allround fluid called TDH ,trans, diff, hyd which says it is compatible with almost everything.I filled everything up and finally got to see the loader move ,which is very rewarding after rebuilding everything and I mean everything from machining new seal blocks in the cylinders to bending stainless steeel hyd. lines, sandblasting painting assembling (without scratching the paint). The only problem I see is the pump whines a bit when the loader is not being used, maybe still air in the system also the loader is slower when the engine is at full rpm. This is all in the shop without being accually being used, just going through cycles ,maybe it will need to be worked for a while.

As long as you are running a multi-trans fluid like that, I don't think you will ever get rid of the whine, at least that has been my experience. That is not to say it is hurting anything, these old girls just like straight hyd oil a little better, and groan a little bit if you use something else.

Well I tried it out tonight, and it will lift a full bucket of topsoil with no problem other than the rearend is very light,so the pump must be allright. The pump still has a whine to it though but like Lavoy said it's the oil that is making it whine.
