420C idler size

Post by gregmech » Sun Sep 30, 2018 1:56 pm

This is my first post to the group, found lots of great info here already. I recently bought a 420C serial #108043 and brought it home. Runs and drives good, undercarriage is pretty much done. It is painted yellow but underneath is green. It is a four roller with a blade. Does someone know the diameters of the standard and oversize idlers? What is an acceptable amount of flange on the front idler? And what was the single bar grouser height when new? I understand that new chains are no longer available and my links are long past a pin and bushing install. If there is someone who knows of some used ones in western Canada please let me know. I look forward to sharing with the group.

Best option is to install 350 Deere rails and pads, plus have a 350 sprocket ring welded onto the 420 sprocket hub. I believe 350 rollers bolt right in as well. Any reasonable condition undercarriage is normally collector price. We have a 440 Dozer that had this done to before we purchased it and works great.
