420C loader track

Post by my fathers son » Sat Dec 01, 2018 7:27 am

I have a 420C which I understand originally was a loader and now has four bolt chain with pokers and a winch. Runs well and tracks stay on but are at their limit for wear. Being four bolt, believe these to be off a 1010. That said now looking at another 420C loader that has been disassembled (nose and engine removed to replace clutch) but has new, that is new 12 yr old with little use, chains on it with 4 bolt street pads. My question is, am I correct in thinking this is pretty much a straight swap and being that the machines are the same will the 4 bolt pattern be the same. The price is good and expect to get it cuz my common sense went out the window as soon as I saw the pictures.

Hi,

4-bolt pads might be 1010 or might be 350. The pitch on the 350 is a little longer, so the 420 teeth have to be cut off the sprockets and a 350 ring sprocket welded on. So, there is something to look for, and then you will know.

For the same number of rollers, the swap is straightforward.

If you have a 420 and the machine the other chains are on is a 420, why haven't you swapped? My ? is; is yours a loader, a dozer or a crawler? If it's not a loader , why would you want "street" pads? Those pads have very little traction and are used on loaders to make steering, with loaded buckets, easier on the undercarriage.

See if I can straighten this out. I currently have a 420 crawler that was originally a loader. The track assembly is short on life, nothin left to bush, pin, turn or adjust. It was converted to a crawler before the guy I bought it from using what appears to be a 1010 track assembly and blade. I’m going to look at a 420 loader tomorrow, which I expect to bring back and what I want is the track assembly if its in good condition to put under mine. Swap out the street pads because mine are good. As Stan (thanks) said it sounds pretty straight forward. Just need to get it, stop talking about it, soak it, heat it and break it up. Thanks.

They could be 350 tracks but all you would need to do is change sprockets which would be a good thing to do anyway

Well, the 420 made its way through New York and she’s here now and appears to be what I thought except for those “oh, damn, look at that” moments up ahead. I had never been in the position before to look at an old weary machine and not have the track adjustment out hangin off the end. Kinda like being a kid again at Xmas.
Will tear it down next month and see condition of rollers and rails, what matches up an what don’t. The chain appears new with no wear as had been stated, rails aren’t bad bad, but better than mine. One sprocket looks good and one not so. Final housings will add weight to the scrap heap. The engine was out to put in a new clutch and is supposed to be good, nice new yellow paint, could be in the plus column on that. The hood and grill are straight and solid, n'other plus. Street pads, I think are like new just a rusted surface, but not keeping them. With just the chains and a few rolls, I’m happy. Tho 90 loader is complete and not in bad condition with a good bucket and three weights. No scarifier. The lift pistons are some surface rust. Anyone know a value range on the loader? Time to wood up the stove.

4 bolt pads did come on the420, 430,440,1010, and early 2010.
If the pins measure 1” they are this type. If they measure 1 1/8” they are 350 tracks.
