Thanks for the ideas and help guys. I'll pick then up this week, hopefully, and see how bad they are.

I agree on the modification, all 62 blades were tilt, was not an option. The tilt pieces are obsolete, so easy to believe someone welded it solid.
Barrels would have to be severely pitted not to be reusable, and if not, barrels are easy to replace.

The barrels are just steel tubing, right? I took it to a regular industrial hydraulic repair service near our local big city/army base (Watertown/Adams NY). They me be the kind of place that isn't much into redneck/make it do repairs. That might have been a mistake?

I would have thought a regular hydraulic repair shop mentioned replacing barrels on tie rod cylinders, if they were that bad. It may have been because they were JD cylinders, not Prince, Cross or one of the common brands they could just order a barrel for. First follow through with contacting Lavoy and see what he has or can get. I'm sure he can fix you up with sealing parts as well if needed. I expect Lavoy will be able to help you but if that doesn't work out: Do you have a machine shop you use/trust? A few years ago I had 2 cylinder rods made for a 62 blade at a machine shop, not a hydraulic shop. They measured the rods, ordered stock, and duplicated the old ones for less than $100 total. They said they could do the same for the barrels if I'd needed. I got the sealing parts and piston cups to do both at a hydraulic shop for less than $50. While not as crucial on these cylinders as higher pressure ones; take care of the tie rods as they are not just threaded rod.

Go to Youtube, search Abom79, SNS198, Metalizing....
The video of spray welding starts at 6:30 in the video.
Metalizing or spray welding use powdered metal to build up a surface, so it can be machined back to original tolerances.
The video shows the process.

Wonderful process for the right applications. You can not run bearing rollers directly on it, like a needle bearing. For a regular bearing with the race, no problem. It also works well for worn, pitted or grooved seal surfaces. It is normally a little softer than the underlying metal is my experience, but still would not deter me at all, been using it for over 25 years.

Thanks Jim, I'll talk to them. Theres another place I can go that's slower than death but they are more of a farmer-type repair place. They may be able to help.
