Update on slobbering GM 2-53

Post by JD440ICD2006 » Sat Nov 18, 2006 11:22 am

The slobbering issue has about taken care of itself. In talking with an old Detroit Diesel mechanic, he says these are known to slobber, especially if allowed to idle very long or not run at top RPM and allowed to get up to running temps.
When I got this unit, it was only running up to around 1,500 RPM wide open throttle. There were some adjustments that were wrong on the throttle linkage. They had it set up to shut down with the throttle, which moved everything too close to the "bottom" to allow it to run at rated speed of around 1,950 RPM.
The mechanic said I could replace the injectors (around $55 each with core) but he said I would be spending my money too early, unless it was hard starting and/or popping or missing on one cylinder.
