JD 1010 crawler ID

Post by Wilbur » Mon Jan 28, 2019 8:28 pm

I am looking at a 1010 dozer that appears to be smaller than the 1010 in my back yard. One of the differences is it has 4 rollers versus 5 rollers on the undercarriage of the one I have. Serial number is 1010 C 22041. Wondering what's up with that. :?:

If you think it's an older model; count the engine cylinders. All the earlier models had 2 and the 1010s were all 4 cylinder.

Just looking at the parts catalog it appears they did make some 4 and 5 roller units. Track frame groups of both are shown. They show the 4 cylinder engines, gas and diesel, with the cylinder liner plate arrangement. They also had hydraulic track adjusters on the 1010s, I believe all the JD crawlers prior to this used screw adjusters. Others here will likely have hands on info.

5 roller was an option, 4 roller was standard.

In my experience, the 4 roller 1010's were much lower production than the 5 roller machines. Not rare by any means, just much, much less common.
