Pump 440

Post by Jirving43 » Sat Feb 09, 2019 12:18 am

What is the max output pressure and gph of the hydraulic pump on a 440 diesel dozer with a 6 way blade?

The 420’s hydraulic pump is rated for 900-950 psi and a max of 9gpm depending on your engine rpm. I would imagine the 440 is somewhere in that ballpark.
1956 JD420, gearmatic 8a winch, custom 6 way blade and FOPS.

440ICD may be slightly different as those had crank driven pumps, not cam driven like the JD gas engines. By the parts catalog they used either Hydreco or Cessna. When dtoots1 was having trouble with his 440IC he posted his manual called for 1040 to 1080 psi main relief pressure. I expect the 440ICD main relief pressure would be the same as they used the same cylinders, valves and hoses. The volume of the pumps may be different. If dtoots1 (or someone with a 440 manual) sees this he may be able to find the pump specs for the diesels in his 440 manual, if the ICD is in the same manual as the ICs.

Jirving43, can you see any identifying numbers or other info on your pump? Are you looking for the 440ICD's main relief pressure? The maximum pressure the pump is capable of, may be more than the 440ICD's main relief pressure. Any ID tag on the blade Frame under the right lift cylinder with a model number like 62, 64? Full hydraulic 6 way on a 440 series should be a 64 dozer I think.

re..jd440ic manual...does not show info for the crank pump units...only the campump....if they produce 900psi is good to go, by the book..8 gpm..

and yes my jd440ic has the 64 blade..6 way

Ill pick up my 440 icd Tuesday.. but I just learned it's missing the hydraulic pump. Way cheaper to buy a off brand pump and build a bracket to make it work.

Here is some reference info for you. In looking around a bit more I found a old posting that said the AT11608T Cessna pump was rated at 15gpm at 2500RPM. It was used on the 1010s, and maybe others, as well as the 440ICD. So in answer to your question on pressure and gpm. You are looking for 15GPM at 2500 RPM and capable of 1040 to 1080 PSI (John Deere's main relief valve setting on a 440ICD with a 64 dozer) from info I found.

Another poster said he had an AT38801 (Cessna 24509LBZ, 25 gpm at 2500 RPM) on his 1010 instead of the AT11608T it was supposed to have. I have a Commercial pump that was on a 440IC loader but the tag on it appears to be one a shop put on and I can't make the numbers match anything in Commercial's info I'm finding. Getting the splines to match the drive will be something to check as it sounds like a couple different ones were used. Not exotic just need to ID so as to get the right shaft in a pump. You should be able to find a pump that bolts up to the existing pump mount, unless they removed it as well. HTH
