440 Parts.. In Alaska

Post by Jirving43 » Wed Feb 13, 2019 11:01 am

Picked up my 440 icd yesterday. Deffinately not putting the 2-53 back in looking at other engine options. Just looks way easier to stuff something way more simple and easier to get parts for.. That being said the 2-53 I have has been rebuilt. New head, blower looks to have been gone thru, I have a spare block that's rebuildable, crank, complete cylinder head, water pump, fuel pump, second head, bell housing, fly wheel, starter, generator, fuel/oil filters. $750 takes it all..

There is not much on the planet easier to get parts for than a 2-53 Detroit. Only other engine choice is original gas engine.

If your coming down to Edmonton I have a home for it. We still sell a few Detroit motors every year and still have lots of parts.

2-53 may be easy in your neck of the woods but very uncommon here.. I'd spend hundreds trying to get the linkages and all the other specific stuff for 2-53 to go in there again. did some measuring today. She's getting my spare M-29 weasel engine. Straight 6 torque. Super easy and cheap parts and run forever.. it will convert fuel into quiet power minus the noise! Can someone please email me pictures of there radiator installed so I can figure out how mine mounts? Book pictures aren't very good

You will spend way more in cobbling in an engine that does not bolt up to the Deere bellhousing, and all the other incidentals necessary for the conversion. Then you have the hyd pump issue as well.
The only one of the throttle parts that won't fit in a Priority Mail Flat Rate box for $16 or so is the long throttle rod.

Lol,. I've got $100 into it and I've got a running 440 on Studebaker power.. Just need to put the radiator back in it and order up my hydraulic pump. Once that pump is installed I can adjust the brake band's and clutch linkage and see if I need to call you again and order up some parts or not.

Look on eBay and amazon, really easy, plus I have a lot of spare parts already.
