how to access throw out rod on JD 40 crawler
how to access throw out rod on JD 40 crawler
i have a 40 crawler. left side doesn't turn any more. at one tme it looks like the right side was cut, and welded to access final drive. is it possible to replace throw out rod from the top. i see in the service manual it has a ball joint on bottom. my rod is bent at a 45 degree angle and unattached at bottom. if i do have to take it apart does the 2x6 inch channel that the fender is welded to have to be cut too? it looks like it was on the right side. any help or advice appreciated. thank you, kevin

None of the linkage is serviceable from the top, final must be pulled.
Not sure which channel you are talking about, factory fenders just bolt on.
If you don't have a parts and service manual, I would get one prior to tear down.

would you have a photo of a fender set up? or schematic of the original setup. my service manual doesn't show this part. this would help me fabricate the original set up when i put it back together. thank you, kevin
Re: how to access throw out rod on JD 40 crawler
i should have mentioned my machine has a bucket loader on front. a henry i think. my fenders are welded to the loader towers and have 45 degree braces underneath welded to a 2x6 inch channel running back to the toolbox with seat mounted on top of channel. do any members have this set up with a photo of the bolting pattern? maybe these loaders were put on as an aftermarket and adapted. did JD put them on at factory, any advice, photos, appreciated. i will post some photos. thank you, kevin

OK, that explains it. Yes, the aftermarket loaders used different fender mounting setups. I am surprised that they can not be unbolted somehow, but definitely possible. Loaders always make the job harder.
