Well finally got around to adjusting the reverser, I can snap into rear position now but didn't help. So I took the cover off on the lever side. I know what the problem is now, there are no shift collars on the front side. Does anyone have any shift collars? or maybe the dimensions of them so I could make some?

He will likely see this, but send Lavoy a direct email (postmaster@jdcrawlers.com). He will likely have the best line on them unless someone happens to have some odd reverser parts around. Or you can try calling him during his regular business hours.

Glad you found the problem!!!! Will see what develops for your part, i call them shift forks and not sure if a person could actually machine them due to bent configuration from what i recall. I assume wheeled has a bit more access to the adjustment, my jd440ic does not leave room for good position to reach and adjust in particular the reverse position does not snap in and remain, even after adjustment, seems the adjuster will not turn further, so probably needs rebuilt, though she runs fine in forward and i use the tranny to reverse.

Thanks for posting the link B Town. I sent the seller a message to see if he has the shift collars.

Well I ended up making a shift collar and it works great! Now I know why it was missing, main clutch is stuck and forward reverser clutch is slipping. Guess i'll be splitting this in the near future.

Re: 440i question REVERSER

Post by dtoots1 » Mon Jul 22, 2019 5:39 pm

thats a shame. Though it would be a help to me if you can let me know what clutches etc cost when you get er done...

also can you advise if you had trouble with the little clutch adjusting wheel inside the reverser?? Mine seems to have bottomed out and probably indicates needs rebuilt, but would like confirmation. I have a spare but don't know whether working or not, but could tear that down to see what all in it and probably have to put in new etc...

Clutch discs are available, usually have some in stock. I have some used parts as well, plus bearings, and gaskets.
