The master link pin in my 1010 was installed with the Tee head out board on the left track. This made pounding it out more difficult because every swing of the hammer came dangerously close to the ROPES mounting point. I bumped it a couple of times and the hammer flew right past my knee. Made it hard to take a full swing. I want to install the new pin with the head in board but I can't find a definitive answer on the proper direction for this pin. The shop manual says that the Tee head on the pin needs to fit into the slot on the link. However my chain link does not have a slot on either side. It does, however have a small notch cut into the inside of the radius of the link's in-board side.
Does it matter which direction I install this pin? This job was just to replace the brake band and get me through a couple of small jobs this summer. Pretty sure I will be rebuilding the finals on both sides in the next few years and wompping that pin from the outside would be much easier.

Re: Master link Pin JD 1010
As long as you can get the snap ring on it doesn't matter. However, the T-slot ensured that any rotational movement would be in the bushing and not the link ends. You really ought to weld a lug alongside the head of the pin to mimic the slot and to prevent rotation of the pin.

Sorry to hijack on to this but does anyone know where I can buy several individual links, pins, and bushings? I asked Lavoy and he is out of them. I only need a couple of each or just one pin and bushing immediately. For a 1010 crawler.
Thanks
Ben

I do have some pins and bushings now, and should be able to dig up a master pin, but no links.
