New to 2010 Crawlers

Post by David M » Sun Jun 16, 2019 3:37 pm

Hi Folks, I’m new to crawlers but recently got a 2010 Crawler with 6 Way Blade and Gas Motor from my Father in Law. The motor runs pretty good, hydraulics all function etc. my issue is the right side seems to not be driving/clutching. Supposedly years ago someone borrowed it and when it left it was working fine, but as you can guess when it came back not so much.

Fire it up and put it in gear and it takes off no problem, pull the left clutch/brake and it stops which leads me to beleave the right side obviously isn’t driving. Get it going and pull on the right side lever and there’s no resistance until the very end but it won’t move past that.

Looking for some help to see what my next step should be.

Get ahold of the manuals for a 2010 and go thru the clutch and brake adjustment procedures, per the manual, then see if it will pull.

As mentioned do the adjustment. When you open up the inspection plate above the steering clutch housing to do the adjustment, you'll also be able to see what is going on with the steering lever linkage as well as the drum. Remember that with JD 2010 crawlers that the HLR (or in a few instances a constant mesh) transmission turns the drive shafts equally on each side when in gear that run through the steering clutch and mesh with the final drives. The more typical situation is the steering clutch discs get oil soaked or stripped and so they won't disengage with the clutch and stop- until the brake band engages when pulling the lever all the way back. In your case lack of power sounds like stripped splines on the drive shaft or pinion in the final drive although other issues may also cause this situation.
