A couple 440 Questions...

Post by ddaxe » Mon Aug 19, 2019 6:39 pm

G'Day all... I have a couple of questions regarding the 440

1/What is the allowable depth/height of the bottom roller(s) side flange, and can they be turned down on a lathe ?

2/ On the outer mounted style blade, I'm missing the guide or limiting rod that parallels the hyd cyl. What length are they and what is the slot length.. or do I even need it..??

TIA for replies...

roller flanges probably could be cut to a smaller diameter if they are smashing into the rail pin bosses.
might consider building up the inner roller dia. instead.
and yes the cylinder wont get pulled apart if the travel is limited, depends on how it is used. adds protection also.

Tks for the response Pop Pop... I have 3 machines, 1 complete and 2 pretty complete.. so I have 30 rollers to choose from. 2 machines have the outer style blade assembly and the one's under carriage is much less "worked on" than the others., but both are missing that limiting bar. Guess I should be able to spec' it from pics using the track grousers as a measurement reference. I'm in the process of buying a plasma table.. so I'll be able to make pieces much easier than whittling them out by hand... I''m deep into this resto now and have several major components sandblasted and in primer. I'm hoping to roll it out of the shop next spring...

The strap is a cylinder guard to keep stuff from damaging the rod. Not a big deal if you don't have them, just don't get something on the rod.

ah.. ok.. I would still like to keep it as close to original as possible. food for thought after it's back together... I am going to be needing some steering and engine clutch at some point Lavoy, along with some other odds n ends... I will email you as the weather up here in the colds of Northern Ontario closes in on us... as I'm trying to clean & sandblast as much as possible before it happens...
