The drive cable for the S/H meter is completely missing on my machine.
I decided to pull the remnants of the engine end of the cable off the drive assembly and inadvertently unscrewed the entire assembly. In my ignorance, I thought "Just as well, I can clean it up better"
Unfortunately, the bevel gear that drives it remained in the block and is too big to fish out through the hole the housing screws into.
Am I going to have to drop the pan to get it back together, or is there a stud in the block that the bottom of the gear locates on? The drive shaft in the housing is splined and (whether it's supposed to be or not...) is a slip fit.

The gear should be a press fit and will come out through the hole, you may have to screw a large screw into it if it has come out.

Thanks.
Working with it further today, the drive shaft on the fitting is frozen so it probably stripped the gear.
I'll work on fishing it out.
