Poop. I think I'm boned.

Pulled the reverser off the front of the trans and found the above. And that doesn't account for the rollers that came out of the transmission proper. Likely they came from the bearing that used to be in the front of that intermediate shaft tho. Not sure where the bearing remnants in the third picture came from, it looks to have been a needle bearing.

At the very least it will need a new reverser casting as the boss for the intermediate shaft is trashed. The nose of the intermediate shaft where the nut is all boogered up is likely trashed too.

I'll finish tearing it apart, but it's looking a lot like time to cut my losses and part it out.

Damn.

Keep watch of Craigslist (maine and NH), Uncle Henry's, and Facebook Market Place (if you do Facebook). It seems like 420 parts crawlers appear quite often. Someone in Wellington has a steering clutch on Craigslist Heavy Equipment right now. Say they have some other parts, doesn't say anything about transmission but it might not hurt to drop them an email. I'll drop you a PM if I see any.

If a bearing will still fit tight in the case, you are fine, rebuild the trans, and reverser is no big deal, I normally keep the bearing and seals on hand, and just got the gaskets for the mounting plate and gear case reproduced and on hand. Should have a reverser case on the shelf, and just brought in a parts machine with a reverser.

Forgot to mention that I have trans case gaskets on hand as well, just got some of them reproduced as well.
Was just looking at your pics on YT, and the parts crawler that just came in is same vintage as yours, so if I don't already have any of the trans parts on hand, have another source ready to come down shortly.

Thanks, Lavoy. The rest of the trans looks okay. If I can get bearings, fix the nose of the intermediate shaft and find a reverser housing, I could put it back together.

None of the above should be a problem, have some of the bearings on hand already.
Clean the trans case out real well, and look at the oil galley on the LH side of the case. This is what feeds the input shaft bearing and the reverser, and is often plugged at the hole through the case at the end of the galley.

Thanks, Lavoy.

Life is gonna get in the way the next couple of days, but as soon as I finish tearing down and inspecting the transmission, I'll get back to you.

Any tips on getting the clutch housings off the trans case? I've got the one bolt and 3 nuts off and have taken all the links for brake and throwout bearing off. Can't see anything else fastening them, guessing the gasket (if there is one) is pretty well glued in place.

Need to find the right pair of circlip pliers to get the brake bellcrank off and convince the throwout bearing to come off. Book makes it look simple but it's not coming off with fairly firm persuasion. I think perhaps the end of the sleeve is belled out a little.

Should not be a bolt on clutch housings, put a stud back. There are 2 dowels too, they can bind up. No gasket between clutch housing and trans, just probably rust.

Thanks.

Top left as you look at it was definitely a bolt. Been off before apparently. When I reassemble I'll use a stud and nut.
