1. I assume the output shaft comes out to the rear, or at least has to be tapped back far enough to take the sliding gears off the shaft?
2. Given #1, I assume the ring gear and carrier have to come out as the pinion fouls the ring gear if I try to tap it back as is.
3. Given #2, pointers on removing the ring gear and carrier appreciated. I imagine the bearing quills have to come off after I get the clutch housings off.
I have one clutch housing loose, waiting on a good set of duckbill snap ring pliers to get the brake bellcrank snap ring off.
It looks like when the front bearing on the output shaft went out, the shaft flopping around chewed the ring gear up pretty good. Pinion, as much as I can see of it, looks good. Is this ring gear too far gone to use?
If it needs to be replaced, should they be replaced as a set? It appears that the pinion is a part of the shaft.

Normally tooth engagement is farther in than that, but guessing it chewed on the pinion shaft at the same time. For as much work as is involved, I would replace them.
Pull both rear bearing quills, take the end plate on top of the front PTO shaft bearing, and tap the shaft forward til it drops down a little. You will need to tilt the ring gear one way or the other to get it out, but it will come.

Yeah, I was afraid of that.
Email inbound.
BTW you were right about the oil gallery and feed holes to the front bearing. Totally plugged.

Re: More 420C trans questions.
I have seen it many times, plugs the hole, starves the input shaft bearing, and eliminates what little oil the reverser gets. Then as the bearing starts to fail, it fills the reverser with metal from the bearing.
