This is over 56 years of memory talking and may not be accurate. I recall using a bottle jack and chain as a puller to get it off the three dowels after the bolts are loosened a lot but not removed. That and a sledge hammer usually worked, assuming the axle bearings were still good.

It should come off without hitting anything. Try rotating it a little bit, see if a different position lets it off the studs.

kmd the outside of the sprocket teeth should run in the centre of the back roller but not so close as to bind like that. There should be enough clearance to get the sprocket moving off the dowels. Some things that might be happening - is the axle moving outboard with the sprocket? That would mean the retainer bolts on the inside bearing have been removed or are damaged allowing the axle to move. Can you move the axle (in and out)? Is the outboard final drive bearing failed and allowing the sprocket/axle to "twist"? What about the roller? Is it twisted due to its bushings being shot? Something isn't right. Any pics?

I agree with Brent, there is something up, they are not designed like that, and I have never had one that would not come off for that reason.

Yes, the bolts will not hold by themselves.
