Hello
I was wondering if I am going to have issues trying to swap a 420 engine into a 40.
Thanks

Re: Engine swap
Different carb and air intake diameter, water pump vs no water pump, different radiator and hoses. As long as you swap the complete engine, air cleaner, radiator, radiator support, etc, it should work.

Re: Engine swap
So I have been trying to fit the center frame from the 420 onto my 40 and found there are a number of differences in the center frame but nothing too major. Seems to be a second set of mounting holes on the front of the 420 center frame that interfere with the 40 side frame. The shaft had different coupler on the one end. The pedals are also further forward on the 420 center frame. I have done some fitting and hacking - I had to remove the hydraulic oil tank to get it to fit in......looks like everything will fit well once these things are remedied. I am wondering if the throw out bearing on the 420 is the same as the one on the 40. Or if anyone has the part number for the throw out bearing on the 420 it would be appreciated. I thought I might just as well replace it while I have easy access to it.
Re: Engine swap
Why not just use the 40 center frame?

Re: Engine swap
Unfortunately both the center frame and the where the engine mounts onto the center frame on the original parts have been badly damaged at some point and there was significant welding done. Call was made to replace them with this setup and hope for the best.

Re: Engine swap
Bill- did you get info on 2000 series manual?
Re: Engine swap
Sam Found it in my junk folder..
Just an update on this regarding the center frame, incase someone in the future reads this.
When I test fit this onto my machine I must have been half sleeping....420 center frame will not fit....the bottom bolts on the transmission are spaced differently. I somehow over looked this when test fitting. Very deflating after stripping and repainting it...lol. I was able to find a replacement locally.....
