j440ic new 6 blade fan
Re: j440ic new 6 blade fan
Just to rule it out, while you have it drained again, you might want to try suspending the thermostat in a pot of water and heating it. Watch the temperature of the water with a thermometer as you heat it up. It should start to open within a couple degrees of the design temperature and be full open by about 10 degrees above opening. It happens now and then, that a thermostat is bad out of the box, just like a lot of things now. Coolant is about 50/50 mix if you used concentrated, not premixed, right. What you described of when it broke doesn't seem like it should have damaged the head.

Never had a bad gasket is at least 2 dozen water pumps, make sure you have it the right way.

Lavoy,
wasn't a bad gasket...just the wrong one...easily solved i made one for that.
Now for the rest of the story...got er all took apart and rebuilt on...without taking bullnose off little unhandy but able to do... she still ran up to redline, shut her off let cool down, checked fluid adde d up to bottom of fill hole, started her up and coolant bubbled over top . cap on it and catch out overflow tube, levying it running, take cap off, rad not hot yet, so put what caught back in and watch it bubble a while, meanwhile temp on low side of gauge and slowly creeps up to midrange and stays there...watch it some more and water getting warmer, temp staying midrange and thermostat opens and temp down to low safe range...ran her for 15 minutes and nothing above midrange...
Looks like was air locked and no circulation cause both times before never did get any hot water at radiator..not even warm....bubbling out cleared air lock...
dnor pump off and backer plate removed non obstruction and turns fine...so still have backup pump....Lavoy will be getting core back from one fan blade blew out on..
by the way i did flip the fan so that smoother side faces towards the block..
thanks guys for all your help and thoughts!
