420C Loader Project

Post by Lucky1 » Sun May 03, 2020 12:44 pm

Found this 420C for sale. Been sitting for 35 plus years after trouble with the reverser. It is in neutral but the tracks barely moved when it was pulled out of the weeds. What is likely holding the tracks from moving? Stuck pins from sitting on the ground?

Brake bands and clutches likely rusted solid. If you can get the pinion gears out of the finals it will likely roll.

Is it possible to pop them (the brake bands and clutch) loose or is this a complete disassembly? Pinions don't sound quick either.

No, once rusted, tear down is the only way, and you will be replacing more than just clutches if it has been sitting for 35 years.

Based on your experience. Care to give a parts only price range for what you would recommend to go through the transmission with a non functional gear type reverser?

No way to tell with any certainty until either piece is disassembled and the broken or damaged parts identified. From a bearing, seal, and gasket standpoint $600 maybe. Again, total spitball, I could be off by $5 dollars or $200.
