1010 will not fire

My gasoline 1010 will not fire. I changed everything electrical, distributor, points condenser , wires and plugs. It has good spark and seems to have good compression. I even squirt some gas in the cylinders and it still won’t fire. Does any one have any suggestions for me. Thanks for you help.

Are you getting spark? If not check the ignition switch and associated wiring

is battery up to par? have you checked for water in the gas....marvel schlabel carbs have a plug in bottom that you can take out and drain the old gas and water, many times i find that to be primary reason these old girls do not want to fire. and they (carbs) like to be clean, also the elbow inlet has a filter that needs cleaned as well.

It doesn’t fire even when gas is out directly into the spark plugs.

Sounds like your timing is off.

You say you changed the distributor. It maybe out of position now. Check the basic timing. Bring #1 cylinder up to TDC on compression and see how the rotor and points positions compare to that.

Where and how are you checking for spark?

Jim thanks that is what I thought might be the problem. I have a Wico distributor on it. How do I set the timing.

The crawler service manual is SM2034. I don't have a copy of it for you, I expect you could get a copy from Lavoy so you have the actual Crawler service manual for future reference. This link will get you to an on line copy of SM2033 for the 1010 wheel tractors, a lot of it will apply, but doesn't cover tracks, crawler steering or finals. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/ ... FZqY0NZUUE. Section 040 Engine Tune Up will give you the info you need to get your distribution in time and properly set it. It describes Delco, Prestolite, and Wico systems, be sure you use the Wico info. You should be able to download all or a section of it and print/save if you want. I am going to be out today, but I'm sure others will be by at times to help with your questions.

I can’t find the 26 on the flywheel at the timing cover, but their is a small arrow that is on it.

Some questions to get the basis of where you are at today. Have you gotten it to start yet or are just getting a chance to work on it again?

If you are just getting back to it, have you established that you have found TDC of # 1 cylinder on the compression stroke? Do you have the hood off so you can easily remove the valve cover? It may be easiest to get close to the marks by watching where the valve rockers are at. Are you familiar with telling #1 cylinder is TDC on compression by getting the valves on # 4 to be "on the rock"?

I have seen some flywheels with an arrow as an indicator the marks are coming up in that direction. It is helpful when using a timing light on a running engine. I believe the arrow should be pointing down as the flywheel is turning counterclockwise. I believe the marks are near by, turn a bit and keep checking. The marks can be hard to see. If the flywheel rim is dirty/rusted the marks may not be visible. How have you cleaned the flywheel around the circumference where the marks are? One method, if you have a round wire end brush for a drill that will fit in the timing hole, run it against the flywheel while turning the motor over a few times (remove the sparkplugs so it spins easily, and be sure it is neutral).
