Unloading the 1010 loader from the trailer

Post by Hurlbutt » Sat May 09, 2020 8:21 pm

I am about ready to off load the 1010 from the deck over goose neck trailer. The deck is about 28 inches high and the truck is unhooked. I have a three high stack of railroad ties across the back with the bottom two under neath the trailer frame to keep the back of the trailer dropping when the unit is rolled back to the rear of the trailer. There are two ties set up as ramps to the ground. There is a gentle slope down from the back of the trailer and not having experience with how well these things want to move after going down a ramp. I don't know if the brakes in the crawler function so I don't want to plan on using them at this point. I plan on tethering my F350 to the front to use it's brakes to control the decent.

As with the dozer project, this one has not run in three years so I need to jack the bucket up and secure it. There are two options I can see: 1. put blocking between the lift cylinder and loader frame or 2. run a chain from the bucket to the ROPS (which isn't much of a ROPS). Which would be the preferred method or is there a better alternative you could recommend?

I like to use a piece of angle iron on the lift cylinder. Lift the bucket up to where you want it, then place the angle iron on top of the lift piston. Let the bucket down until the iron is tight against the lift cylinder and holding the weight of the bucket. I put the angle iron on both sides of the machine.

I was thinking to use wood blocks but there is little area for contact. Angle iron would be superior. Thanks

The Angle irons work great and pretty safe too.
