Water in 440IC
Pulled the head off, it was plumb full of water, no rust.
Pulled the oil plug out came crystal clear oil! Lol it was full of water. What are the options?
Junk the engine?
Rebuild the engine?
I’m willing to rebuild but will listen to wisdom..

As for the engine, first determine where the water most likely came from. Setting outside uncovered, unless it was under water in a flood, sounds like most likely source of clear water to me (thinking it would have had a coolant mix in the radiator). Is there coolant in the radiator? Have you checked all the other compartments for water? Tear down and evaluate would seem like the prudent first step. Then get cost estimates and decide what you want to do when you have real info, not guesses. If you do a rebuild you will know what the engine is. There is always a gamble, even the condition of a running used engine found on Craigslist or other unknown private sources. Lavoy would be a trusted source for a used engine, if he has one. JMHO
In looking back at your posts, which were asking about a battery, it appears you might have just gotten this machine. What is the history of the machine? Is this crawler one you just found and bought or is it one you know the previous owner and the history of? Do you know the condition of the whole drivetrain (clutch, reverser, transmission, differential, steering clutches, and final drives)? How is the undercarriage? If you just got it and don't know the history; careful evaluation of the machine should be undertaken before you put a lot of money into an engine. Again, JMHO
Just an FYI, your 440IC post should be on the Early Models Board and will likely be moved over there.

Re: Water in 440IC
Just bought the dozer, water is due to the dozer being uncovered, the undercarriage is in very good shape, has very low hours (500) last time it ran was 2 years ago, the only problem he had was to tighten up the left track periodically, then the starter went out, so it sat there since. The owner thought he had it covered but wasn’t, let all that rain in. Have not checked the clutch, or drive train or anything, yet.
So how do I move this thread to that post you mentioned?

Re: Water in 440IC
I’m sure the block is not cracked due to freezing, there’s no leaks of any kind, and also we live in a very warm climate in Alabama lol.
Re: Water in 440IC
I would rebuild it, if the block is not cracked, no reason it can't be done.

Re: Water in 440IC
Would you have all the interior parts for rebuild?
Re: Water in 440IC
Yes, not a problem.

Re: Water in 440IC
Hi,
Water probably came in the exhaust as rain. These things need a can over the stack when parked. I do this even in the shed in case of a roof leak.
