My starter on the JD 440IC has a broken off ear on one of the bolt holes, what do you do? Have it welded? Put a piece of steel behind it shaved to the shape of the curve of the starter with a hole drilled for support?

Try going to your local rebuilder to see if he can solve the problem correctly, before you end up stranded far from home in a mud hole and the starter is failing you. You could also check with Lavoy. (Owner of this site.)

No nose cones available any more other than used. I might have a used one, would have to do some digging.

Nose cone? What’s that?
Also the starter is missing the top cover of some sort, where the brushes are located, is there a cover available?
