440IC Service manual wiring diagram

Post by Swanybawanie » Thu Jul 23, 2020 5:36 pm

Being that I’m changing the 440IC dozer from 12 volts to 6 volts I searched for the wiring diagram I wish to follow. The parts catalog has a wiring diagram but it is vague, has 5 wires going into a harness and further down the harness the wires comes out going different places and are not identified, no codes, no wiring colors, any thoughts?

Full Wiring diagrams would normally be found in the Service/Technical Manual for JD machines, at least that is where they are in my 420/430 and later JD machine manuals. Lavoy sells manuals and likely can tell you if the full diagram is in the 440IC Service Manual, If you don't have the Service Manual and Operator's Manuals you should get them.

I have 2 catalogs:
one is the John Deere Service Manual, MC, 40C, 420C, 430C, 440IC, & 440ICD, couldn’t find a wiring diagram here.

The other catalog is a parts manual Tractor- “440IC” industrial Crawler
PC 573. This book has the wiring harness, lead wires, and electrical system but it’s not really a complete diagram.

From the title of your service manual it sounds like you have an I&T manual, or some other aftermarket publication, not the proper John Deere SM2023 Service Manual for a 440IC Spark Ignition Crawler. I expect that is why you don't find the wiring diagram. In my opinion, I&T manuals may help in some cases, but are often just slightly better than nothing. The right JD manual is for just the one machine. John Deere publication SM2023, or a good quality reprint of it like Lavoy would have, is what you need. Reprint quality varies greatly so beware if you decide to get something on line. From things I have seen posted Jensales quality is down and they reprint I&T manuals for some machines not the manufacturer's original manuals. There is a serial number break as far as the right operator's manual number. Stan Disbrow posted a list of JD manual publication numbers by model number on the FAQ board, it is about the 17th post down.

Hi,

Hmmm. I+T manuals. Yes. They should be bought only by those still operating an outhouse. :p

They also work well for bird cage liner and fire starting.
