440 final ?????

Hello I have a 440 gas with the left final is shot. I bought a 440 diesel for parts. the left final is not so great on that the right final is fine. can I use a right final on the left side ??? Kip in jordan NY

Yes you can if they are the same final, all you will have to do is move the drawbar dowels.

Make sure the finals are the same for both machines. There are several final drives for a 440 and they do not all have the same gears ratios. Lavoy is the expert and would know the details on gear ratios, etc. If both machines have the same finals, then they can interchanged between machines, and right to left side.

If you have a parts manual, it will tell you what finals will work on your machine. Even for diesels, there are different final drives (change occured at S/N 456802).

My assumption was that you were only talking about the case itself. IF you are talking the whole final, then it is a crap shoot whether or not the gear set in it will be correct. In addition to that, if you are just going to bolt on a used final without disassembling it to check everything inside, you are asking for trouble unless you know it has been freshly rebuilt.
