another transmission question 1010

i read through my owners manual on my 1010 loader crawler about using the reverser ....

is using the reverser while in reverse gear a good idea or a really bad idea ..... my 1-2 gear cluster is iffy but reverse works great and is the same ratio as 2nd ....

currently the reverser gear is also working great too but obviously i dont want to ruin it using it in the wrong trans gear

i read all through my manual and there were no warnings i could see

If you are running the reverser in reverse, and the trans in reverser to get another forward speed, you are running 100% power through the counter shaft of the reverser. Normally you are only backing up, so reduced load. If you are not caring if it wrecks something you could, otherwise, I would not.

yeah i dont want to break anything .... i will continue to use 2nd gear with the reverser until it breaks ..... father john has 1-2 gear clusters once that happens

im just very frustrated.... all that talk of “restoring” the 1010 from the previous owner and they didnt bother looking at the transmission or noticed that is wasnt right or needing more repairs and sold it off to a rookie like me

at least the motor seems to work good

Would like to restore a 65 sooner or later. Dad bought it new in 1965 I think.
