Holes

Post by gregjo1948 » Wed Oct 21, 2020 5:38 am

I want to elongate holes thru 1/4" thick steel to mount a front loader. There are round holes existing but, won't line up so, I need to elongate to get bolts to thread in as they should. The holes are 5/8" diameter and need to be elongated about 1/4". Any suggestions will be appreciated. gregjo1948

Get a 5/8" car reamer, slowly drill through both pieces at the same time, it will make a new round hole.

Thanks Lavoy. I only need to enlarge one piece but, I probably will do all fourteen holes.

Other option is die grinder.

Thanks Lavoy. I bored the holes larger and it bolted right on, as it was meant to. It's on an IH 350 utility tractor and the loader made it steer too hard. I drilled new holes 3/4" back from the original holes in the pitman arms. Made it steer much easier but, a little slower. Would be nice if it had power steering.
