Master pin removal

Post by Swanybawanie » Fri Nov 13, 2020 7:22 am

Had a customer share with me about removing the master track pin says to use a spike hammer or punch out hammer, must be done with 2 people, they come in different sizes, 1 inch, .875 inch, 3/4 inch, what is the diameter size of the hole? I looked for the dimension but couldn’t find it, just want to make sure the hammer spike is smaller than the hole size.

When I had my 420 tracks re-pinned and bushed, I welded a length of 1/2” rebar to a 1’ length of scrap rod (drift) that fit the master pin hole in the master link. I had a friend hold the handle while I hit the drift. Worked for us, it gave me room to swing, somewhat, and kept fingers out of the sledge’s way.

I think it depends on whether you have a “dimpled” press fit pin, or a headed with clip type pin. Maybe Lavoy can offer some insights.

The head on the master pin on the 440ic is smooth, semi flat with rounded off corners similar to a pencil eraser, no dimple that I could see..
