Use this link to get to the John Deere manual site. https://techpubs.deere.com/en-US/Search/Equipment . At least currently John Deere gives access to some of the ag machines operator manuals for free, 40Cs, 420Cs and 430Cs are some of them.

Where it says Model in the box for type of search, click the drop down and change that to Part #/Key Words. Type OMT60558 (430C Operator's Manual) in the search box, and search. That should bring up the manual info. To the right of the manual name, click download to get the manual. You can view it on line or save the document for free. The 430 has the type reverser I believe you have, check it out. If it is the correct one there is service and adjustment info for it there. Lavoy will be able to give you his recommendation for the oil/fluid to use in place of the Type A automatic transmission fluid recommended back at the time the manual was written.

Hi,

You fill a differential reverser thru the clutch adjustment bung hole on the right side until it begins to come out. I use ISO46 hyd oil rather than HyGard as it is a bit heavier and my differential gears don't make as much noise that way. ISO46 comes from the farm store such as Tractor Supply.

Don't use the junk labeled as 303.

This reverser is not in the 420 service manual. You need the 440 manual for it.

The 420 and 430 Crawler Operator's Manuals are available as free pdf downloads you can get on the John Deere publications site I posted the link for. To get the Operator's manuals for your 420s just do a model search for 420 instead of the part #/Key word search (check the English, North America, and Base units boxes at the left side). There are a number of 420 base unit options by sub model and/or serial number breaks. As Stan said the reverser you have was not included in the 420 manuals. I had a 430 and that same reverser. The lubrication and adjustment info is in the operator's manual for the 430, but I had to get a 440 service manual to have full technical/repair info on it. Hard copy Operator's Manuals, the Technical service manuals, and parts catalogs were/are purchase items. A source for the service and other manuals is Lavoy, he handles manuals in his store.

You should get this screen doing the search using the 430 manual part number. Image
I added an arrow and note to show the free download. The book and CD below that are items they charge for.

If you do a model search and open a model, you will see the same download if the manual is free. If the Operator's Manual Download has a charge it will show up as the book and CD do, with a price. You have to pay before you get the download, no price and like this one, it should be free.

Let me know if this helps.

Good. The operator's manuals for your 420 crawler, and wheel tractor, can be found with a model search, if you don't have those. There are a number of choices due to the different models, and serial number ranges, of the 420 to sort through.
