John Deere 420c reverser disassembly

Post by E.Huffman » Thu Dec 24, 2020 7:32 am

Hi So I am working at dissassembling my late model reverser and I need some advice on how to get the spider out. I have all the pins out, However there has been water setting in it the last 2 years thus freezing it up. How would you recommend me to get it out with out damaging any thing? Thanks in advance

I have had good luck submerging piece like this under water (days-weeks). It has been 20 years since I took a reverser apart. And it was the older gear style. When I don’t want heat to change the structure of the metal, I will be patient and soak in water.

Best regards, Bruce

I will give that a shot. I kinda doubt that straight water will loosen the rust but I will try.

Water is hands down the best penetrant for rust other than maybe acid.
