MC serial # plate
MC serial # plate
Want to take off the plate to sandblast . What have you all found as the best way to remove the rivets without marring the plate? Also, what is the best way to clean and repaint the plate itself? Or just leave it alone, and on the MC? Thanks in advance. Pat
Pat,
You might try putting several layers of electrical tape over the nameplate prior to blasting. That is what I did when using plastic media and sand for blasting aircraft parts (If the parts were going to be repaired and the nameplate did not need to be removed).
If the part was bad, and we needed the nameplate, we used 2 metal scrapers (a snap on P/N PK23 works good because it is very rigid) and tapped them in at the same time from opposite sides under the head of the screw. Once the head was lifted up the thickness of the scrapers, a good set of duckbull pliers and a twist (in the direction of the removed screw threads) would remove the screw completely.
Good luck,
Brian
