Fan blades.. bent or are they normal??

Post by Jimmy in NC » Mon Jan 08, 2007 8:06 pm

So with the radiator, shroud, etc off the front the fan is easy to see. My question is are the leading outside edges supposed to be bent down as all four of these are?? Is this simply someone's way of trying to help get the motor warmed up?? I question b/c if it is a farm adjustment it was was done very evenly on all four blades.

Just seems that this bend counters all of the efforts of the fan...

Jimmy,
That fan ain't right. You can try to straighten it or buy a used one.
A used fan shouldn't be to costly, but I sure wouldn't run it like it is.

Jimmy,
That dosen't look like the one on my 420. mine is straight. sort of wonder if at some time in the past if someone might have bumped somethig and pushed the radiator back over the fan or something came in from the side and bent it and that is how the mechanic straightened it to save a dime or two. I agree with Jim I wouldn't use it if I could find another.

Fan blades

You could straighten them. But I'd watch real close for cracks in the blades. Looks like they been out of balance for quite a while. Could of been straightened a few more times than is safe too.

Well.. I'll get it taken care of. It still moves a good bit of air and it's always run 175-180... maybe that's why she doesn't foul plugs as bad as some.. she stays just a lil warmer due to the fan and higher thermostat I have in it.

Thanks to all that have looked at it!

Jimmy,
I do have the updated 6 blade fans on hand if you don't think you can straighten this one. Also look for cracks anywhere, I have one of these shed a blade, and it cost me a radiator.
