John Deere MC track bolts

Post by Doug_ahlberg » Sun Jun 20, 2021 4:21 pm

I just inherited a John Deere MC with a John Deere 40 track on it which is super loose. I need track bolts which the JD dealer can get at $11.24 each without nuts. Any suggestions as to the best alternative without spending over a thousand dollars? I need 104 bolts and nuts. Grade 5 or 8? I was thinking at least 8. Thanks

Contact Lavoy. He sells parts for JD crawlers and his business provides this site for us to use. If he doesn't have them he can point you in the right direction to get some.

I was able to tighten most of the loose shoes on my 420 by using a long breaker bar. Spray them first and let them soak. I purchased the ones I need to replace from Tractor Supply. Grade 5 bolts.

Use grade 5, fine thread, torque til a good 1/2" impact wrench stalls out. The grade 5 will tend to stretch a little bit and seem to hold longer without loosening in my experience.
OEM bolts are grade 5, they just have a short section with no thread where the pad and link would be on the bolt. Obviously more desirable, but not worth $11 each.
