Has anybody managed to setup alternative Sway chains for 440 3 Point Hitch?

Hi Guys,

I have a 440 Ag with factory 3 Point Linkage, I'm based in South Australia.
A Clavis is broken for one of the sway chains. Ive always found the factory setup still allows the implement a lot of movement
Wondering if anybody has come up with an alternative arrangement to control sway of the 3 point linkage that they could share?

I think to have the least movement, you need to remove the drawbar to use the narrower set of holes.

Much appreciate your quick reply and suggestion.
Unfortunately due to the location of the sway chains and tie points, they tighten and loosen when raising and lowering the hitch. Which is a problem when on slopes etc.
I came across photo/video clip of a Fiat crawler where the chains are attached to the inside of the linkage arms , was wondering if anybody has adapted this approach to JD crawler without the bottom links extended.

If they are tight with the arms in a "working position" so to speak, you can't raise the hitch without breaking them or the clevises, that much I have discovered. I put a set of aftermarket chains with turnbuckles from a compact utility tractor and tightened them up. Broke something as soon as I lifted the hitch.

Sway chains would have to be attached at the same pivot point as the arms and move with the arms. That is where my JD wheel tractor is attached. About a foot inside the arms attaching point. They have turn buckles and don't allow much movement. Sometimes I even have to loosen them to attach an implement.

Could a very heavy spring be used?

Sway chains on your crawler should already be connected to the inside of the arms.

You are right about the pivot point and attachment for sway chains for the wheeled tractor being in the same line .
Whereas the crawlers the attachment for sway chains to the crawler is near the tow bar which is several inches/centimetres out of line to pivot point of the lower arms.
Like Lavoy I've used the turn buckles and had the same problem, fortunately bending shackles rather than something important.
