440IC crawler loader

Post by bashmaki » Tue Jun 29, 2021 8:46 am

Does anyone know if the above crawler could be ordered without a reverser.
I'm looking at one of these to buy. It's in decent used condition. The only snag is there is no reverser. The guy tells me some had them, some did not.
The housing is there. He says it goes straight thru.
Sounds fishy to me but I confess. I don't know a lot about these.
Others are telling me to run!!! They say it's been modified and not worth close the asking price.
What say you all?
Thanks

Yes, no reverser was standard, reverser was an option on every 2 cylinder crawler manufactured that had it as an available option. Even if the crawler had it from factory, removing it is a common practice, and if done correctly causes no harm whatsoever to the crawler. Conversely, a reverser that is properly added to a non-reverser crawler causes no harm either.
Personally, I don't like crawlers without a reverser, maybe more so in a loader, and I would say that more loader crawlers than dozer crawlers would have come with a reverser.
As far as it drastically changing price, or if it is not worth close to the asking price, with or without reverser would not be that large of a determining factor for me. I would rather own a non reverser crawler with perfect undercarriage than a crawler with a completely rebuilt reverser and shot undercarriage.

OK Lavoy,
You gave me something to ponder. I guess it's up to me to decide if I want the loader at the asking price. Frankly, 4500 seems a little high for this machine. I guess I'll watch it for a while.
I learned a long time ago not to fall in love with anything or you'll pay too much.

Thanks,
Gus

Hi,

The 2-cyl trans is rather a pain to get into gear. I would get tired of that on a crawler after about the second shuttle cycle. So a reverser is a highly desired option.
