1010 track

If you are standing on top of track between top roller and idler should you be able to rock the track back and forth with your feet on the edges?

If you mean side to side of the pads, yes they will rock, how much is dependent on the amount of wear in the chains. there is an article on the FAQ Board Stan Disbrow posted about undercarriage that is a good read to help understand undercarriage components and their functions. I would expect your machine has a good bit of wear in the chains.

Yes I mean side to side. The machine has 1600 hours on a working hour meter. The tracks themselves look really good so I’m hoping the rest of the undercarriage is similar. I’m just now getting familiar with a dozer. First time owner.

I doubt that is all the hours on the machine. I expect the tracks may have been done in the past. Measurements as described in the undercarriage article are the best way to tell condition of the undercarriage.

"Looks of tracks" is for the most part meaningless as far as what you are asking about. You can not visually see internal wear on the pins and bushings, which is what would contribute to what you are talking about. Measuring pitch will tell you where you are at as far as internal wear, and even that may not tell the whole story. Measure across 5 pins (4 links), 23" is new, 23.5 is 100% worn.
Good looking tracks means that they are probably worth rebushing though.
