1010 Hydraulics

Post by JAJ » Sun Aug 29, 2021 7:33 am

I’m in the process of putting the loader back on the crawler. My question is, how do I prime the hydraulic pump which is in the front of the engine? The hydraulic oil tank is way back along side the seat and I’m concerned about damage to the pump while it is running dry until oil gets all the way up there, I rebuilt the pump and don’t want to destroy it in its first minute of operation.
Hydraulic line from tank to pump is currently empty of oil.
Or, am I worried about nothing? Just fill the tank and fire it up.
Thank you very much.
Jim

My 420 service manual says to fill the pump before attaching the lines. It says it's a self priming pump,
but I'm sure it need the oil in the pump to create the suction to prime itself.

The level of the oil should be significantly higher than the intake of the pump, won't be an issue.
