1010 backhoe buck tooth shank

Post by Bret4207 » Wed Oct 06, 2021 5:58 am

Is there a standard shank for the backhoe bucket that the replaceable tooth mounts to? I'm not sure which hoe I have, but I'd imagine JD used the same shank across a lot of machines. Any ideas?

Good evening Bret,

Are you looking for one shank to match what you have for teeth, or are you looking for a full set with teeth you can replace? Over the years, and even now, there were/are a number of shank and tooth combinations used during the same time periods. If you are trying to match one to what you have, you will have to ID it. H&L makes aftermarket shanks and teeth and have info on line. Their website has catalogs with dimensions and a document that matches JD numbers to their numbers.

If you are going to put a full set on, I would either go to my JD dealer or pick something aftermarket that is in use by JD, Case, or CAT these days and readily available. Some of the old shanks just had indents in the sides. You used a punch to deform the side of the tooth in to the indent, to hold it on the shank. To me that wasn't a great system and they often fell of if not well deformed. Most now use some type of pin system to hold the tooth on the shank.

Lavoy or someone can say for sure but I think the model 50 was one of the hoe available for a 1010. Lavoy may have access to a line in his store, check with him as well.

Thanks Jim, there's just one shank busted off and lost. I figured I'd get the same shank as the others and replace all the teeth at once. These use a pin IIRC. I'll see if I can look up the M50 hoe at Deere.

That should work. Have you checked your local equipment dealers and rental houses? They may have one on the shelf. Cost wise it might be a wash if you don't have to pay any shipping.
