I don't think having a bar across the links, under the snow hole, for a bolt would work well. The points of the sprockets come into that area.

Any body play around with rubber pads on 420 or other crawlers?

I work my 420. I don't think the wood blocks or rubber pads would hold up well in that environment; too many point loads trying to tear them or rip them off.
I've caulked (corked) tracks in the past with 3" long, appropriately sized groused stock with good success. Makes them pretty aggressive and helps the pads last longer. Great in the woods, not so much on the lawn or driveway.

So I pull maple sap out of a (very muddy at times) woods from february to mid march and then the rest of the year it pretty much sits other than trail maintinence in the summer, or the times I get it out and wish it had rubber or wood pads so i could drive on pavement! Its not a must just curious!

A neighbour of ours once had a contract to remove a railway line, and to run his TD6 along the road he cut the side wall of a scraper tyre into blocks using a chainsaw and lots of water.
