Any body play around with rubber pads on 420 or other crawlers?

Post by E.Huffman » Mon Oct 25, 2021 9:26 am

Hi has anyone played with putting rubber squares on top of track pads to keep from tearing things up?

There was a member who put rubber tracks on his 420. He cut down 420 sprockets and welded on appropriate rims with teeth that matched.
A search might find his posts; they were a few years ago.

Yea I think I saw that one. I was wondering if any one has bolted tread in between each cleat. We sometimes have tractor tires go bad and was thinkin about bolting it in it..

By us there is a tire re-caper who will sell lengths of that material; which is rectangular and flat in profile. I wonder if it would work for you? Might need to be doubled to be proud of your grousers, and counter bored a bit for the bolts. Good luck.

Hi,

There were optional rubber pads back when these machines were new.

A gentleman in Virginia did a Lindeman and now an MC. Got the pads from an industrial supply in Richmond Va. , counter sunk the rubber, drilled holes in crawler pads and now drives it around the neighborhood. If I can find the post on facebook, I will post the info here.

Like Stan, I have never seen the actual Rubber Shoe but there are pictures of it, along with all of the other types of shoes, in my 40c parts catalog. It looks like they have a bevel around the edges and have 2 integral studs to use nuts to affix them to the pads. Can't tell the size so I don't know if they would fit on all pads or only on the "flat street type". Good luck!
have 40c 4 roller crawler, 1927 Ford T Touring car, 1931 Ford A Roadster, 1951 Standard Vanguard Saloon. Never a dull moment!

I installed pads on my Lindeman and just recently my MC. Google search Zimmerman Oliver Cleatrac... the website will come up... hes in PA. About $8 per pad with all hardware needed. Had to have a machine shop drill 2 half inch holes in each grouser pad. Work great.
I have no idea how to post pics on here.... sorry.

Message me on Facebook Steve Palermo and ill send pics

I wonder if a 2x hardwood block countersunk and bolted on would work? Are you working this machine, or using it in parades and such?

This is just a work machine its not very pretty! I could try wood I just wonder how it would hold up? Cheaper than rubber!

Do your tracks have snow holes in them? Could put a piece of steel bar through the chain underneath for a place to put an extra bolt through to secure whatever you're adding.

I've thought about wrapping a strip of conveyor belt around the entire track to make the machine road friendly. Not sure how long it would last before the grousers wore through.
