Rear PTO and 3 Point hitch questions

Post by Sapmaster » Mon Nov 01, 2021 3:47 pm

Hello,

I would like to know what John Deere crawler models have a rear PTO and 3 point hitch hookup?
Does the rear PTO have a lever operated disconnect?
Was a rear PTO standard on any crawler model (i.e. 440c, 40, etc.)?
How hard is it to add 3 point hitch hookup?

Thanks

My 420 has a rear PTO lever, but I don't have a PTO installed.

Correct me if I am wrong some one but i believe the mc 40c 420c 430c and 440 had or could have pto and 3point from factory. IU have a 420c loader but it does not have 3 point or pto because it was more of an industrial crawler not an ag crawler. Yes the pto has a lever just like the 2 cylinder tractors.

I put a PTO on my 420. Simply remove the cover where the PTO goes and bolt it on. I did put new seals in the old unit before putting it on and generously lubed it too.

The 40c as well had provision for 2 PTO shafts on the rear of the transmission. One for Standard PTO attachment providing 560 rpm and one for auxiliary equipment requiring higher speed and provides engine speed (1850 rpm) for such things as winches and hydraulic pumps. I think MC crawlers had a similar arrangement but not sure
have 40c 4 roller crawler, 1927 Ford T Touring car, 1931 Ford A Roadster, 1951 Standard Vanguard Saloon. Never a dull moment!

All two cylinder crawlers either had a PTO, or the ability to add the PTO attachment with the internals already installed in the transmission from the factory, standard. There is a lever to engage the PTO on all of them. 3PT hitch was an option on 420 through 440, and could be field installed on 40s after serial number 62,263. Not difficult to add one, just need to find the factory unit and bolt it on.

Additionally all 1010 crawlers came equipped standard with the ability to add the PTO attachment. 2010 crawlers were more of an involved setup, but were available with a PTO as well, but somewhat more of an option than the earlier crawlers with the exception of the Ag crawlers which I believe were all capable.

Where are the best places to look for factory 3 point setups?
What is the average price for a 3 point setup?

No real specific place to look, here is a good as any. Price will be all over the board, but buying something incomplete at a cheap price does no good, then you are parts shopping.
I have a customer that has one for sale, if you are interested, give me a call and I will put you in touch with him
