If the cam is turning when you pull the lever it is free, which is good. To remove the cam; once the final, with steering clutch is off, unhook the linkage and 4 springs from the cam. It should come out, there might be some resistance from wear and rust but it shouldn't be difficult to remove. The balls will likely fall out, if they are in there and not rusted in place. The video I posted of PossumFarms MC is the same for practical purposes. Some of the part numbers balls, inserts, and one 440IC quill option are the same in both. Bill made a number of videos documenting what he did on his MC which will shed light on your machine, as the steering system is basically the same, just follow the specs in your manual for your crawler.

Got the cam very loose on its shaft, spins freely to a point on both sides, it’s like a pin or keyway preventing it to spin completely around, it’s also like a keyway to prevent it from coming out, it will come out about a half inch but will stop..

Final drive has to be off first, but other than that, not an issue. I have the 4 springs in stock if you break one.

Just like Bill's video, once you have everything unhooked (linkage and 4 springs) it pulls off. It may have some rust, wear grooves, or burrs holding it, you just have to work it off. The tube the carrier slides on should stay in the quill.

Lavoy, I have the final out, I’m just struggling getting the cam out, it’s all cleaned out and spinning good and clean, I’m thinking it’s a stuck bearing carrier, I’m work on getting that out, so the cam is held in by the bearing carrier? The video Mr. Jim sent me shows the bearing and cam coming out all together..

Is it possible the capscrew that locks the carrier to the cam, when adjusted, has one that is too long in it, has fouled the tube, and that is preventing removal? If you don't have that capscrew out, try removing it and separating the carrier and cam.

Sprayed PB Blaster under the carrier shaft, put longer bolts down the groove and worked it with some vise grips, it’s moving now… think I’ll have it out soon..

Swanny,
ok so it is moving....are you saying that clutch and all is out and you are simply looking at the bearing on the carrier tube? do you see if tubing damaged or was it simply rust preventing movement?

The tube looks a little rough, not bad, I bought me a puller from Auto Zone, I should have it out today, that carrier, and cam was a JOB! Lol thank you all for the support, couldn’t have done it without you all…

So, you have the carrier and cam off the tube? What do the inserts in the cam and quill look like? Nice smooth cup shape, smooth taper, not beat out? What do the balls look like? No flat spots, round and smooth?

If you are talking about pulling the tube, I would not do that without having a new one in hand. I would look hard at cleaning it up in place (and the insides of the cam and carrier so they freely slide on and off the tube). Lavoy, or one of the other guys, may say for sure but I think the proper way to replace the tube is to pull the quill and press the tube in to a given depth.

Still can’t get the cam and carrier out, had the pulley pull all the way flush with the other shaft and hoping I could get a small pry bar behind the cam but no go, can’t use the pulley any further..

The tube looks ok, I wasn’t planning on removing the tube, used up quite a bit of PB Blaster for the whole thing, it helped a lot, but still can’t get the cam and carrier out..

Can you separate the carrier from the cam?

They seem to work together somewhat
