muffler madness 1010c diesel

For the past 30 years we've been running our 1010 diesel (serial #20813) with just a straight pipe and no muffler. Yes, it's a bit loud. So I looked up the part number for a muffler (AT12460) but no joy finding it (well, some places seemed to offer them for sale at $350, but I have my doubts). The muffler for engine models later than mine (engine serial numbers 31001 and up) are available (AT16380) and there are places selling the muffler AT13310 that they describe: "For tractor models: 1010 diesel to tractor serial number 31000, 2010 gas, 2010 diesel to tractor serial number 29000."

Sadly, my crawler and I have a long distance relationship (it's up in snowy northern Wisconsin while I'm warming my heels in North Carolina) so I can't just pop out and get any technical measurements and I don't recall whether there is a flange on the exhaust tube--which looks to me to be an obvious external difference between the AT13310 and the AT16380 (neither of which is the actual specified part for my engine number).

I know proper back pressure from mufflers is important so if I'm going to buy one I'd like to get the right thing but I'd like to know if either of these would work with my engine or whether to just keep wearing earplugs and earmuffs?

If you haven't, contact Lavoy. Send him an email (postmaster@jdcrawlers.com) or call him at the phone number on the homepage during CST business hours and explain your need. He may have one that will work, given he sells parts as well as repairs the older JD crawlers.
