JD 1010C track pad 12" vs. 14"

Post by bighamlin » Thu Jan 18, 2007 8:52 pm

I need to replace the 4 bolt 12" closed grouser pads. I use the crawler in sand and for clay road maintenance here in Florida. It is also used in North Carolina for mountain logging road maintenance. For my types of use, would it be advantageous to switch to 14" pads for floatation, or will this cause increased wear elsewhere with a greater resistance in turning? Does anyone have advice?

Thanks
Paul

If you have a power 6 way, you won't have the clearance for 14" pads.
If you find yourself in a situation where you are actually sinking just driving and not under load, the larger pad will help. If not, then may or may not do any good. It will increase the turning load due to more grouser in the ground, and will increase the load on the pins and busings due to the greater width.
If you are in pure soft blow sand, and are running out of traction, they will help, in hard clay, no real benefit.
