2010 injector pump timing
I am still battling with my injector pump. When using the starter with injector lines loosened from the injectors, I still don't get what I think is a proper amount of fuel spitting out. I am not suspecting timing as I would assume that no matter what the timing, you should still see a robust spit of fuel, right? What would make an injector pump change in timing? I took off the inspection cover and see the top mark, but not one on the bottom. I assume I have to turn the engine over to see where the second mark is?
Re: 2010 injector pump timing
I would exhaust all possible avenues of starvation of fuel prior to the pump before I would start messing with the pump. Timing does not control volume of fuel, only timing.

Re: 2010 injector pump timing
X2 on Lavoy's post, here and on your earlier post about this. The amount of fuel you see at the nozzles is subjective, not what I would call a robust amount, but others might. It doesn't take a lot of fuel when sprayed from a nozzle as a mist.
Did you check the screen located in the inlet of the pump? Most have one. I see you said your pump is nothing like the one in the parts book. Can you post the info from the tag on the pump, if it is still on it? Pictures?
You said you changed the first filter. What brand and number filter are you using? If it is WIX, NAPA, or CarQuest, you didn't put a seal ring down in the groove around the top of the filter, did you? I change both, when I do them.

Re: 2010 injector pump timing
Thanks for helping out. I checked the screen. Clean clean clean.,,I did use a WIX but replaced all gaskets with what came in the package. Wouldn't leak pretty bad if I didn't install one? Just checking. I have tried taking several pictures of the tag on the pump. It is installed upside down and it is not easy to read
What I can make out looks like:
Under "STANADYNE" Model # DBO-O494 ?
SERIAL# F041503
MFG # AT16518T

Re: 2010 injector pump timing
you ask as though that's bad? I am getting good flow out of the second stage filter...

Re: 2010 injector pump timing
You normally only use 2 of the three large square sealing gaskets unless it has the extended water separator cone between the filter and the bottom bowl.
You didn't end up with a seal gasket inside the top rim of the filter did you?

Re: 2010 injector pump timing
Nothing wrong with WIX, that is the brand I normally use. Those style fuel filters have caught many folks when they try to use all three gaskets, not know why it is in the package. Many have not seen the water separator option where the third gasket is needed with those style filters.

Re: 2010 injector pump timing
Since you are helping me, the reason for the filter change in the first place was because of the "can't keep it running" problem. I can rip that filter off and check what I did, but because I get such good flow out of the second filter outlet, I would not suspect a problem with the first.

Re: 2010 injector pump timing
Ripped the filter off, and I had it on right. No gasket covering those slots.
Is the part number I listed a correct or close one?

Re: 2010 injector pump timing
AT16518T is now AT16518 (John Deere dropped most of the suffixes a few years ago. Using the search feature of the JD online parts catalogs, that pump number shows as being used on the 1010 and 2010 series wheel tractors. It also appears as the replacement pump for the crawlers, at the end of the parts list for the original pumps. I can't find info on the excess (return) fuel pump outlet fitting (threaded directly into the pump head and the line goes into it) they call for as adding with that pump (AT16555T) for crawler serial numbers under 42000. It might be a check valve. Take it out and see if it is an open fitting or if it has internals.
Some of the pump internals may have stuck from setting (you posted it hadn't run for about a year and a half I believe). There seems to be more issues with pump internals sticking with the low Sulphur fuel. You may need to pull the pump and take it to a shop and have it bench tested.

Re: 2010 injector pump timing
Jim,
The thing that frosts me the most is that it ran just fine for over an hour before it started acting up, running slower and slower, eventually dying.
Almost smells of some kind of fuel clog somewhere. I can't imagine injector pump internals working fine and deteriorating so quickly.

Re: 2010 injector pump timing
When you opened the timing window did you see any bits that looked like mouse turds behind the window? Have you checked to be sure the throttle linkage has not slipped? Have you checked to be sure the air intake system is fully open? Just somethings to check.

Re: 2010 injector pump timing
Did not see any debris behind the inspection plate. I removed throttle linkage to get to the fittings for the fuel input to the pump, so I know that's working ok...Have the air cleaner out and waiting on a replacement element. After a little more research, the part number is DBO-0404. Does Lavoy have rebuilt kits for these pumps? TractorHouse will sell me one for $900 (plus shipping those blood suckers)
Re: 2010 injector pump timing
Injection pumps are not cheap. I don't think Lavoy sells kits for injection pumps. I think he will say the same as I am going to say, Take it to a pump shop. They should have the info, parts, tools, and experience to do it right. A shop should be able to bench run it to calibrate it. If you give your general location someone may have some info on a shop, they have had good luck with.
