440 cylinder head rebuild question

Post by smitty906 » Sun Dec 18, 2022 8:54 am

I have a head that has been rebuilt some time ago , I am looking to tear it apart to clean and reassemble.
I see it has umbrella style seals on all 4 valves . The manual shows oil deflector seals on intake valves only
part number M3299T. Should i leave the seals on or try and source correct seals for intake only ?
Also the rocker shaft has wear on the areas that contact the valves , is it acceptable to clean the wear areas up with a file or
flapper wheel on grinder ?
Im hoping to have this thing running by x mass .....we will see

My machine shop does not even put seals back on, I wouldn't worry about it.
A good machine shop will have a machine for regrinding the radius on the rocker arms.

Thanks Lavoy
I found a pair on ebay for $40 ....yes for 2 umbrella seals ...lol
covid pricing
Also should have read the manual first , it talks about cleaning up the wear on rocker tips.
