Track sag & adjustment.

Post by Brian420 » Sat Feb 18, 2023 9:59 pm

Hey there! New member! Got a 1956 420C 4 roller few months back. Owners manual states track sag should be about 1.5” measured in the middle. I laid a straight edge along the top of tracks, found center, and measured 3 1/8” on right track, about 2 1/4”. Also looks like my adjustment is at the end of its threads and can’t be tighten any more (see attach pictures). Wondering what would be needed to get the tracks tight.

Side note: I can’t seem to figure out how to attach pics, using my iPhone.

If you are out of adjustment, your pins and bushings are shot, and the tracks need to be rebushed.

Believe previous posts show that you can take a link out of each track and move adjusters back to regain a bit longer life and adjustment on your crawler...is a job...have to find master pins and raise machine on solid wood blocks or railroad ties to work on it.

You sell those parts right? Guessing it’s one of those jobs that in theory isn’t bad to do, but probably a lot of cussing and swinging hammers eh?

I have them, yes, but it is a track press item, not a hammer.

I once watched 2 guys turn the pins on my Dad's D2 Cat! Sledge hammer and a long handled pin punch. 2 day job!
