Rear housing oil leak.

Post by Magoo1 » Sun Feb 04, 2007 7:41 pm

Hey guys, I changed all the oil in the 40C and then found the 440c. So, the 40 is parked under the barn. I noticed that transmission oil is leaking between the rt. clutching housing and bull gear housing. I checked the trans. oil and it is low.

Would a bad Quill Seal leak when the machine is just sitting?

I had already noticed that the two bolts on the bottom of the clutch housing(above the flanged axel shaft bearing cover) were broken.

Are cracked housings common?

Thanks for your comment

There is another possibility. I have had the studs that hold the clutch housing to the trans case break or come loose, and they will leak gear lube into the clutch housing. Either way, you will need to pull the final to find out what is up.
