440 engine oil leaks after rebuild
Re: 440 engine oil leaks after rebuild
Haha I'm a troll as well , just transplanted .
Re: 440 engine oil leaks after rebuild
Just checked oil level and appears to be well below the pan line .
Just pulled plug and let her drain for a new gasket and pan inspection .

Re: 440 engine oil leaks after rebuild
Well oil pan had a couple minor divots at mounting holes , straightened them as best as i could then resealed with new gasket.
Also resealed water pump back cover with new gasket, hopefully all is good .
So after moving the power steering pump around encountered a leak at the hose .....parts tractor supplied a replacement.
On a new note or .......new leak noticed a puddle of oil on the top of dash area , where the 4 bolts go into the reverser that holds dash assembly.
What are the chances of oil seeping up past the threads and puddling around bolt ?? I would figure that this would not be a pass through hole into the reverser .
About everything that holds fluid has leaked or is leaking at some point on this project ........smh

Re: 440 engine oil leaks after rebuild
Could it possibly be dripping down from the oil pressure gauge line?
Re: 440 engine oil leaks after rebuild
Jim B ....that was the culpret .
Brand new gauge leaking at fitting .
Discovered another leak dripping down front of oil pan , turned out the lower governor housing bolt seeping oil ??
Threw some sealer on this bolt threads and dry.
I thought I had all leaks sealed up , until starting yesterday for 5 minutes to show off to a buddy.
Cant find this one .....puddle under crank front seal .
I am frustrated to say the least .
I worked at a engine reman years ago and have built installed and tuned numerous small blocks in street cars and have never had any problem leakers like this .
I guess my next move is to buy a new breather even though i had soaked old one in diesel and cleaned twice . I wonder if somehow putting the breather on it is bottoming out on tube ?? Maby I will try and back it off a 1/2 inch or so , grab a beer and let er run .
Other thing is running 10w 30 maby i will throw some 30wt in it
Other than that i am at loss

Re: 440 engine oil leaks after rebuild
On my 440 i used 5w30 many times....onliest real oil problem i had was that stupid valve cover leaked like 360 degrees all around it...even changed valve cover and new gaskets....just lived with it and cleaned it off occasionally, did not run oil level down just a messy looking engine
